Mini Session or Custom Session?
Ah, the era of the mini session. Quite often sought after by clients looking for a quick photo fix. What makes them so desirable? What are the benefits? What are you missing out on by now having a custom session?
Whether it’s a styled set up or a quick fix for the family Christmas card, mini sessions let
The majority of my mini sessions have a theme set. This is a great way, especially for kids, to capture some adorable images. Whether it’s Halloween, Easter, or something as simple as ‘Fun in the Sun’. A themed mini let’s you have a full set up for a fraction of the time planning and cost. It lets you sit back and relax while your photographer takes care of the details.
This has to be the biggest downside of a mini session. If they are offered by a true professional photographer at a reasonable price, you will find yourself limited in a number of ways. All of the creative control is set by the photographer and most of the time you are restricted to a specific date and time. A quick 20 minute session means a small selection of images to choose from. Your images will be very similar to everyone else who booked in for the same mini session.
Let’s face it, a mini session is usually a fraction of the cost compared to a custom session. While anybody can head to Walmart for a standard family portrait, not everyone can afford boutique photography services. Anyone can snap a quick photo, but your life is art that should be displayed. Mini sessions allow everyone the chance to have high quality images with artistry behind them.
So keep your eyes open for mini sessions offered by local photographers. Take advantage of ones that are available or discuss the options of setting up a custom session.
