The Only Constant…is Change.

I’ve thought about writing this post for awhile now, but of course with the hectic lives we all lead, I am no different. My clients’ work comes first even though this has been brewing in the back of my mind for at least six months.

The first time I actually thought about a camera, I mean really took a second look at the device I was holding, I was 16 years old. I had no idea what I was doing and it was just a simple plain and shoot camera.

And I loved it.

I bought my first DSLR camera after high school and was infatuated. Again, I still didn’t really know what I was doing but I played around with my new Canon camera. The summer of 2008, I was home working and I had a woman approach me about shooting her daughter’s graduation photos. My first paid gig.

I look back on those images now and wonder to myself what the hell was I doing. I really had no idea! This woman had a little faith in me and that was all I needed.

Word spread and I continued to take bookings here and there under the table during my time in university. I took some classes, upgraded my equipment, and kept learning. I will never forget the first time I shot a paid wedding in manual mode, I was a nervous wreck!

Then in 2011, I finished my business degree and officially opened Photos by Sarah (www.sarahmeagan.ca). Navigating web design was a first for me, and is still something that causes me to rip my hair out.

I have decided to share with you some of my images from the time my doors opened as a Saskatchewan business. I have had time to reflect on my growth and understand that the changes in my images from year to year, is a good thing. My image focus for this blog post is on couples. I realized that I am most passionate about capturing love between two people and I feel it has become my strongest and most creative pathway in photography.

As I looked back, with the knowledge I have now, it makes me realize how much I have changed and grown. And how much I still have to learn. But where would we be if we did not constantly change and grow? Would we be satisfied? Would we be happy?

I have learned a lot in the last four years of business, and as I do at the start of every new year, I want to grow. With over 30 weddings through my lens, I feel like I have expanded immensely, both as a photographer and a business owner.

I’m just getting started.

For 2015 I’m rebranding my business, focusing on select areas of photography, and creating a luxury experience for clients.
